Cherry Day grew up in Tyler, Texas, the daughter of a medical doctor and a porcelain sculptor, where she developed an appreciation for anatomy, health, and a love of art in general. Always keenly interested in the human condition, she studied Sociology and Psychology at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1989 and then went on to pursue graduate studies in the behavioral sciences. In the meantime, she spent some years as editor of a national travel publication, where she was in charge of images for the front cover and other aspects of the look and readability of the magazine, giving her a sense for graphic arts, presentation, and the psychology of design. During this time, she also took classes in art at Brookhaven Community College in Dallas and attended a number of workshops. As always, she was spending her extra time drawing, painting, or sculpting, but found herself increasingly drawn to three dimensional art.

It was not until she met and married Jim Day, her soul mate and her muse, as well as fellow sculptor, that she was able to have her own studio and devote herself full time to a professional career in sculpting. She cast her first bronze in 2001, soon found successful bronze sculptors, such as Scott Myers and Garland Weeks, to mentor her; and she continues to immerse herself in the community of artists and art collectors through fine art shows, exhibitions, gallery events, demonstrations, and workshops.

Cherry feels tremendous satisfaction when her sculpture conveys the "inner" spirit of a person, captured in a moment of significance or grace, when much more is presented than mere anatomical correctness.

Through years of study and practice, Cherry has mastered the techniques of working in both oil-based clay and water-based clay. Consequently, Cherry creates both limited-edition bronze sculptures and one-of-a-kind fired-clay sculptures. Cherry is available for private instruction in both sculpting techniques.
